What Students ought to be doing during this lockdown period?
Many a professional, employee and student may be expressing helplessness over their ‘confinement’ till at
least April 15, 2020. I often wonder why at least our management students not
do the following instead of throwing hands in the air? You are a witness to present working styles
in corporate. About 60% of work could be
done back at home. In the days to come this trend will catch up in every
quarter. Talking about students, the scenario is no different. Present era is agog
with distance learning, virtual learning, conferencing and so on. It is true
that class room teaching has its own flavor. An empowered teacher can deliver
lessons irrespective of whether he is inside the class room or away from it.
- The present Corona Clampdown is a test for students and teachers alike. While a creative and committed teacher can enlighten students where he is and with what he has, energized students can move to new, challenging frontiers and try their hands. There is no finish line to success. Never say never again. Here are a few steps management students (MBA and PGDM) should be doing this time around.
- There are thousands of very useful videos on general management. To start with just consider ten of them. Play them couple of times. Make brief notes in your own way. One day you will be making presentation using the inputs.
- Collect 100 great quotes from the net. There are thousands of empowering quotes. Write down these 100 in a note book. Write your interpretation on each of them during the next 10 days. Read what you wrote several times till you are at ease.
- Select 10 cases on management issues. Write comments on them in the light of your own perspectives.
- Select 100 difficult words in English language. Consult each of them for correct meaning, pronunciation and usage. Make it a point to use at least a few of them in your day to day conversation.
- Make a list of 20 most read books on Personality Development, Leadership, Motivation, and Communication and so on. Write down the names of books and authors. Memorise these names. Plan to read them all in the span of next 2 months.
Back at Nitte School of Management,
Bengaluru, we have assigned our students with tasks of this kind. We know that what we do repeatedly grows into
habits over a period of time.
