‘We are what we do repeatedly’
This quote by Aristotle
should be the watchword for our management students. Excellence in life is a matter of not just one act or even a few of them.
Resorting to multiple actions should become your habit such that it is impossible to separate it from your life time goals. Goals are best
achieved when you play multiple roles and activities. An alignment among goals, roles and performance is
enabled though habitual good work, persistence and ‘stick-to-itiveness’. We at
Nitte School of Management, Bengaluru are committed to drive you towards your
cherished goals through our ‘A-S-K’
approach. Through our undivided
attention we help strengthen your
Knowledge, Skill and Attitudes. The fourth dimension is Performance which will
be the by-product of ASK.
How do you develop such
winning habits as students? Habits are to be formed with direction, dedication,
discipline and deadline. Habits should lead to positive focus, thinking,
attitudes and performance. I would like
to offer a few tips in the form of seeds
which you have to sow during this
Lock-down period so that you can show your teachers the seedlings when you are back.
· Open a textbook on Management, HRM, Financial Management,
Marketing Management or any other. You will invariably find a glossary of terminologies
at the end. Go though it even if they sound dry and make a crisp note out of
it. Collect at least 200 key words. In
course of time, it will come handy to you for examination, placement or as
talking points. When your teacher
introduces these terminologies, you should feel happy that you know them already!
You may have written them mechanically but still you are far better than those
who did not do this!
· If you like to specialize in finance areas, you may try doing
the following. Learn how various markets – money, capital, and security
– function. Make a list of about 20 money market instruments and get to know
their mechanism. Initially you may find the exercise a little boring but do not
give it up. You will reap the benefits
in future as finance professionals. Visualize that you are the most liked
public speaker in finance areas. Today’s activities will firm up as tomorrow’s
assurances.
· Go through the web sites of at least 10 public sector banks
in India over next 6 months. To start with, enter the site of a bank right
today. You will see the whole world of that bank dancing before you. Make notes on key aspects of the bank –
deposit products, loan products, Loan policy, customer service policy, risk
management practices, International operations so on and so forth.
