Post Graduate Specialization in Business Analytics: Key to your goal realization

Image
Big or small, business houses   or Corporate, urban biased or rural oriented business decisions need to be taken consciously and analytically.   Even during primitive stages of business evolution, when technology was not even heard of, our elders used to take business decisions based on parameters of prudence, practice and ‘consultation’. In rural settings, our farmers were never reckless in choosing what to grow, how much to invest, when to change the cropping patters and so on. They had their own way of looking at things ‘critically’ and acting upon it. The present business world has come of age. From staffing, to planning, to manufacturing to marketing and so on, every manufacturing process and business segment is powered by data and data. From sole proprietary concerns to MNCs, business decisions are handled through tools of analytics. Accordingly, management institutes prepare their students to think, act and decide analytically.   In a globalised scenario...

Ten steps to handle your anger

Image
Keep cool:   a moment’s hesitation can prevent a lifetime of regret.   Give yourself time to think. Be aware of your angry feelings.  Do not ignore, or deny them, for emotion influences what we perceive, think and do.  Don’t suppress it, but don’t act on it. Ask yourself: ‘Why I am angry?’  This is the key.  Let life question you.  Often the issue is not   serious one and it can pass off if only you let it go!  Nurture a sense of humor. Take responsibility for your anger.  Have the courage to find reasons to come out of it. Talk about your emotions.  The ability to talk truthfully and fully about yourself is necessary for effective communication. Talk the matter over with someone who is close to you.   Anger not expressed does not disappear. Keep and ‘anger journal’.  Write down your feelings.  Don’t let them boil inside. Have an outlet for your energy. Let go the things that make you feel clutt...

If there is one single intervention that could tell who you are to the outsiders, perhaps it is the group discussion.   This process is inescapable in any selection/admission process.   To have to work in teams is the quintessential requirement of company assignments or business positions. Many a personality traits come into play in a group discussion scenario. Our personality dynamics take an altogether different mould when we deal with a group of people. In a one to one interaction, you could predict at least a couple of things and plan your move in advance. But, facing a group of people with diverse views and making an impact is no easy. You have to evolve and emerge. What do others look for in a GD? How good and deep you are in a given area of discussion? Are you able to move up the level with fresh thoughts and value addition?   Do you have the innate quality working in a group?  Are you flexible with opposing views? How good and empowering yo...

As students you often have to face the audience and communicate. But remember, you do not have so much of time as you may wish. Completing a communication task in just a flash is what makes you relevant, efficient and effective. This does not mean that you don’t have to talk at length. Having to talk in brief is never easy as many people seem to ...

‘We are what we do repeatedly’

Image
This quote by Aristotle should be the watchword for our management students.   Excellence in life is a matter of   not just one act or even a few of them. An alignment among goals , roles and performance is enabled though habitual good work, persistence and ‘stick-to-itiveness’. We at Nitte School of Management , Bengaluru are committed to drive you towards your cherished goals through our ‘A-S-K’ approach.   Through our undivided attention we help   strengthen your Knowledge, Skill and Attitudes. Stop being access your technology gadget but also fall in love with the powerful gadget called: Thinking!

Change your Mind ... It's often said that change is the only constant in life. Yet humans are evolutionary predisposed to resist change because of the risk associated with it. Despite this resistance to change, it is more important than ever. Napoleon once said, "One must change one's tactics every 10 years if one wishes to maintain one's superiority." In today's society the pace of change is immensely faster, and it will only continue to accelerate. Organizations and people that don't embrace change are bound to lose ground and stagnate. Albert Einstein once said, “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” There is nothing as powerful as changed mind. You can change your Clothing, your hair, your address and your residence, but if you don’t change your Mind, the same experience will perpetuate itself over and over again because everything will change outside but nothing intern...

How do you introduce a guest to the gathering?

Image
If a guest speaker ever made a special request to the organizers that he would introduce himself to the gathering rather than being introduced, there may be a sound reason for that. One of compelling reasons could be that he was not happy the way he was introduced on previous occasions. I used to observe a senior colleague of mine in my earlier banking service, insisting on self introduction as a pre-condition for delivering talks. Once I asked him whether this kind of insistence did not amount to disrespect to the organizers and especially to the one who would be looking forward to doing this job. My colleague shared with me the reason that evening. He is a highly qualified person with four MA degrees in the string of at least a dozen qualifications. It seems the introducer went on to say,   ‘ …. I am happy to say that so and so appeared for his MA degree four times!’ My friend who was the Personnel Manager must have felt humiliated in front of new batch of officers who were ...
